New Yamaha R-6 DOES NOT rev to 17 500rpm....

#1 Unread post by High_Side »

Yes thats right. Yamaha has been hyping up the amazing rev capabilities of this bike in all of their adds and now it has been proven to be bogus. The first R-6s to hit the dyno have had the rev limiters kicking in at 16 200 while the tach says that the bike is past it's "17500rpm redline". Motorcycle Daily has reported this and has basically called it what it really is: A concious decision to mislead their customers.
Does it really matter? Hell no! But it is funny that they got caught with their pants down.....

I have read a seperate first-hand report stating the same thing: the motor isn't spinning at the claimed speed of 17,500 RPMs.

C'mon Yamaha, do you guys think we wouldn't find out?

i think you put kawasaki at the wrong end
Though it really does go on a bike for bike basis for me. But the only kawasaki's i really like are the KX line of dirt squirters.
I still like the R6 best. Well, of the 600's.

Of course I'm generalizing from a single example here, but everyone does that. At least I do.

That is funny.

How did they think that wouldn't come to light and make them look stupid???

But I bet the Yamaha race bikes will have ignitions that give at least 17,499 RPM.....

And so will the aftermarket soon...... I wonder how many warranty claim fights will come up over this......

I wonder even more what Yamaha's spin on this subject will be..... oughta be good.
No Witnesses.... :shifty:
