Greets !

Wandering about the net for moto info brought me here and I've been lurking :bag: for a while now - so a brief intro then !

Loved cycles since I was 15 or so - finances, time, work, school and other commitments never semed to leave room to fit it in - but read all I could (many trees died for those magazines....), pestered the local dealers, always went to the yearly motorcycle shows, surfed the net, and so on.....

Enter EBay - a source of much enabling ! :P

1 won auction later I had my motor - 1983 Honda CM250C

Not the biggest.....not the baddest....not the fastest....and maybe I will get bored with it and long for a bigger/better machine - but for now it's enough :)

Took and completed the MSF course the very first session of the year - in NY that meant mid-March (they were chipping away ice patches on the riding range on day 2 - hehe) and I had a combo sunburn and windburn by the time the course was over.

Lack of previous experience meant that I had to put some cash into my bike to start to fix some things that had been neglected - spent more money on riding gear than I did on my motorcycle (before fixes) and now I'm watching 2 things - the mail for my road test waiver that will free me from my permit restrictions -and- the weather every night for a spot of good riding weather without rain

It's all been worth it :D

Welcome.
You are 1 step ahead of me. My class (Rider's Edge) is in 2 weeks.

You mean they don't take care of the card and waiver your last night?

I was planning on getting my license the next morning........

:welcome: to both of you. Be patient, if you are anything like me you'll spend many saddle hours this summer. I have one piece of advice for you, "Do Not" let your peers or a stranger for that matter goat you on to do something you are not ready for. I've seen to many new riders get and open it up and scare the heck out of themselves or worse. Take your time, you may have learned to ride but you'll find your instincts will develop to anticipate what's to come and how to handle it. :frusty:

It is not my goal to scare anyone, only to prepare.
Many say live to ride, I say ride is to live.

It comes down to what your state does Dusty - here in NY a learner's permit is fairly restrictive as far as the hours of a day you can ride, you must have a licensed rider watch you the hours you can ride, limited places you can travel to, etc....

So what happens at the course end is that the course completion stuff is sent to the state DMV - that in turn lets them issue a road test waiver, which you get mailed to you afterward and then u go down to DMV, turn it in and you are given your moto endorsement and are considered fully licensed.

Much more complicated than other places, I know... hardest part is not being able to ride freely after the course is over while waiting for the mail.

Good advice MSWarrior - probably the only good part of not having any motorcycling friends (so far) is that the only person around is me so no bad influences about - except the occasional voices in my head talking to me.... ;)
