Old cb750 + new parts = confusion

#1 Unread post by revcbl »

So spring is here, and I'm getting ready for some overdue maintenance on my 1976 CB750.
It had its problems before winter-- rough idle, power loss at highway speeds, running rich enough to make the guy behind me feel sick and going through fuel SUV-style (about 11 mpg).
My plan is to start with a good carb cleaning, and go from there, but I'm curious about the effects of the aftermarket coils and the 4 to 1 exhaust (it came to me that way).
How does this effect the proper jet size (or does it)?
Could one of those things be the cause of my original problems if they weren't installed right?
And if they are, what can I do about it (besides going back to stock-- too expensive)?
I always kept my other bike stock, so I'm not sure how these things all influence each other.
Oh yeah, the airbox has been changed, but I think I'm going to switch that one back.
Thanks,
Chris

You might want to keep the aftermarket air box, if it is in good working shape, to keep the intake and exhaust systems balanced. This of course depends on what exactly you have on it.
