1998 EX500 Ninja Engine Problems???

#1 Unread post by Willys »

Hi guys:

I'm in need of some tech help..I have a 1998 EX500 Ninja. It has roughly 1000Kms on it, it has been sitting for the last 4 years. I have rebuilt the carbs, cleaned the tank, fuel stick, filter, air cleaner assembly, put in high test gas, new plugs, checked for spark,fuel,compression...is low on one cylinder about 130psi(left side). I have added small amount of oil in cylinder and did increase compression slightly. Also no oil in anti freeze and not water in oil.
OK...the problem is...it won't fire on the left side unless beaten on the street??? Then it will kick in BIG time!!! BUT...the left side will not fire at idle or any revs.

I am wondering if the rings could be stuck in their grooves from sitting or the valves are sticking from sitting....Is this a possibility???

I have an idea to put transmission fuild in the cylinder and crankcase to loosen these areas up ...???
Has anyone else out there had anything similar and used tranny fluid to help loosen the rings, valve train???
I am wondering if this proceedure will harm any componants???

I don't want to take this engine apart just yet if at all possible as it doesn't make any sence that it will be a severe mechanical problem as there is no mechanical knock or noise of any type coming from the engine when running on one cylinder or even on two when it does fire on two.

Can anyone offer any help ????

Thanking you in advance
