Replacing the rear Master cylinder

My xs400 has a rear disc brake and its a pain in the bum. The general feedback I get about the rear disc brake models from the era is that they always are getting jammed.

I'd like to replace it with a aftermarket cylinder and have found one that has a smaller m/c bore. So what implications does this have? I know that braking force is increased, but travel distance decreases. Should I go with the new and more reliable cylinder or get an OEM one off ebay and hope it works?

You might try rebuilding the master cylinder and rear caliper. Clean it good, new seals,etc.

I already did that. New seals, m/c kit. (twice) The problem is that the only m/c kit that fits the xs400 is available from the dealer at 40 bucks. While a new m/c assembly (aft market) is about 90 bucks. Hence I'd prefer an entirely new assembly.

I think 40 bucks on two pieces of plsatic is a waste of money.
