Auto Darkening Shields for Shoei Helmets ???

#1 Unread post by K9 »

Has any one heard of or know ware I can find replacement shields for Shoei that will change as the day light turns to night ? I would love to have a nice cobalt blue lense for the Shoei but when night time sets in and your far from home then what do ya do. I do not want to ride with a dark shield at night. I guess you can lift the shield and then put on clear gogles or something but that is not to good either. I want a shield that will be dark in day light and then turn clear at night. I have seen such things for goggles and glasses but what about a helmet.

Yes, they are not specifically for Shoei though.

Fogcity makes a light reactive anti-fog insert that is fitted to the inside of a clear visor. I have a mate with one (he happens to have a Shoei XR-1000) and he thinks it is great. It cost about $80 Australian.

I put a light reactive insert in my shield but it doesn't get very dark. I still have to wear sunglasses on a sunny day. I just take the sunglasses off when it's dark out.
The shield insert is only a bit tinted and it has never gone back to crystal clear in the dark, but it is useable in the dark.

I found the Fogcity web site you mentioned and have info I need. They say the lens does not get very dark in the bright sun but it is worth a test. It is pretty cheep so I will give it a try. Thanks
