#1 Unread post by biff »

I'm looking to get a sportbike and am looking for some sugestions. The reasson I ask is I'm 6'4"300lbs. I currently have a VN1500 classic, and that is a good size bike. I'm not super experianced on a sport bike and I'm looking for a bike that'll fit me and that I won't get board w in 6months. Any recomendations?

Depending what you are looking for... or if you are only worried about specs you might want to look at the higher end Hondas, I hear they are super reliable. If you want something that will be awesome on the street and super flickable and loaded with torque... and since you are big I would say

this: http://www.buell.com/en_us/bikes_gear/ulysses/

or this: http://www.buell.com/en_us/bikes_gear/l ... /index.asp

or for a more aggressive seating position: http://www.buell.com/en_us/bikes_gear/f ... /index.asp

SV1000S?
You did say you've got a big bore cruiser, with not a lot of experiance on a sporty. SV1000S is a twin with some real grunt and speed. Without all the highstrung snapiness of a 1000 I-4. There's also a CBR929RR which may fit you, but IS a RR so it will be rather snappy. BUT it is a big bike without being as crazy as a litre bike.

+1 on the SV1000. More comfortable than a full on super sport and loads of torque from the v-twin, and still has razor sharp handling.

It also is roomier than the average super sport so it wont feel tiny and cramped for someone coming off of a big cruiser.

Also check out the honda super hawk.

Hello vulcannasty,

You might try finding a Kawa ZXR 1100 or 1200. I have not been on one, but it is a bike with a serious following. It is fairly naked and has upright grips.

I was talking to a guy a few weeks ago that fits your description. He was riding a crotch-rocket of some type. Want to say it was a Yamaha of some type. May see him again if we get a nice Sunday soon. Will let you know what he was riding.

I think you will like the sport or standard bike better. I have a Kawa 454 Ltd., but when I took the MFS course I was on a 250 Nighthawk. Now, it ran like crap, but ride comfort-wise and manuevering... If I didn't love my bike, I'd have sold it and gotten a standard (still looking for one. shhhh... she might hear me  )

I sat on the beulls and i felt huge on them and I am only 5'8" and 160lbs. They were a little tall for me but overall felt so small!
But that was just a first impression so who knows...

That's a good point. A buddy of mine has a Buel 250cc..now That's a small bike by any means, but the Buel, it was unusually small. I looked like a circus bear on that toy....

+1 on that. I test rode a 1200 and it felt really small. I'm 6' 1" and 200, and even my wife said I made it look small. Oh well.

Since I own one (see my avatar), I'll also recommend the Kaw ZRX, either 1100 or 1200 version. It's a big bike by most standards these says, but plenty of power and torque. One of the mods here also rides one, we're both members of the owner's association (cult following! lol). The downside is Kaw dropped it for 2006 (boo hiss), but there are plenty available used. Awesome machine. Kaw's big standard bike is the Z1000, which I don't care for to much (again, it just seems really small).

The Katana has already been suggested, it's another option. Sit on a Yammie FZ1 if you get a chance, and the Suzuki SV1000 (both standards). I also like the Honda Interceptor, that V4 enigne is a work of art.

Bototm line, you really need to sit on these things and find which one feels most comfy for you. And remember, most of the naked standards you see are sportbikes with the plastic removed, the seating position made more humane, and the motors retuned for less top end hp and more midrange torque.

I'm 6'5", and ride a suzuki bandit 1200. I've taken it on some longer trips, and I never felt cramped on it. Plus, it's got plenty of power to make sure I don't get bored. I've always wanted a performance bike, but didn't like laying on the tank, so this was the perfect bike for me. Oh yeah, and it's carbed so in my opinion easier to tinker with too 8)
