This sort of thing makes sense to motorcyclists because motorcyclists know that drivers say they didn't see the motorcycle after an accident. Most people think they are really good at seeing motorcyclists. So what 99% of TV-watchers would see watching that clip is a rude arrogant large getting on a motorcycle... and they already know that fat bob down the street rides his Harley with special amplified tail pipes to make it extra loud and pisses off everyone...

Not a well thought out video. It should at least have a voice-over stating the "fact" that 40% of motorcycle fatalities are caused by drivers not seeing motorcyclists. Without something like that, it is just further proof that motorcyclists are barstuds.

you make a very good point...didn't know about the 40 thing.....where did you get those stats?

You could go with straight Hurt Report findings....

Have a voiceover say

"Approximately three-fourths of motorcycle accidents involved collision with another vehicle, usually a passenger automobile.

"In the those accidents, the driver of the other vehicle violated the motorcycle right-of-way and caused the accident in two-thirds of all cases.

"The failure of motorists to detect and recognize motorcycles in traffic is the predominating cause of motorcycle accidents. The driver of the other vehicle involved in collision with the motorcycle did not see the motorcycle before the collision, or did not see the motorcycle until too late to avoid the collision.

I don't know. The commercials I see that have statistics make me zone out. When I showed that video to an office mate she laughed at it, then asked me if I ever had problems with cars not seeing me.

So maybe they wouldn't take anything away from it, but I think some people, like her, would at least ask a rider about it. Open the dialogue so to speak.

Yeah but hitting every possible audience isn't possible. I think that would be a good way to target people who know a rider or are slightly open minded. There was a nother ocmmercial that was on this site a few months back with a car that pulled right into a motorcycle from teh car drivers pov then showed how easy it would have been to see the bike if the guy had just looked. That seemed more likely to hit the people who don't like bikers.
