I meant you should learn about engines, how they work, why they work and how changeing one part affects the whole engine in general.
And WTF a dyno is, why you may want to have your bike run on one, and what to do with the results.

I'm quite sure you read all about your little dohickey. Yet you have no idea what it does or how it does it, other than 'it changes how it runs'.

You are a marketing department's wet dream. (that's not really a good thing, BTW)

Verm, a dyno tech "rides" the bike on the dyno and runs the bike up to about the rev limiter in each gear to see the powerband and acceleration time, before and after the TRE installation.

I just want to know how the heck you had No money to buy a bike and a car not to long ago, and now you can afford this crap for it!?

Im pretty sure he was saying that he just didn't know what gear the dyno guys would test his bike in... and if it wasn't 1st-4th, then the dyno wouldn't see the difference...

I think dynoing it with this mod would be a waste of money. You aren't gaining anything peak... like he said, the mod just prevents the bike from limiting the fuel in lower rpms (which creates noticible throttle hesitation).

If it can 0-60 in 3.1 seconds it doesn't have significant throttle hesitation. Anyway, throttle hesitation is a non-issue... your clutch will (among other things) prevent hesitation.

The thing is a timing mentally challenged eliminator. Suzuki set up the ECU on their FI bikes to mentally challenged the spark based on gear selection. That's a little odd but none the less they did it. Among other things it leads to a better idle and cold starting abilities, less chance of preignition, and so on. Retarding the spark is something almost every decent spark ignition engine designed since 1932 has done (diesels mentally challenged the injection timing instead of the spark timing)... but most base the timing on manifold vacuum or the like.

Some good details (including how to build one for less than $20) on this page.
Ride it like you think owning it matters.

wow, all this fuss and giving verm "poo poo" for installing a timing retarder eliminator..... suzuki "exceptional people" the timing in the first 4 gears because of EPA emissions issues, (or was it noise issues?) anyways, its a very well known thing to do to a modern suzuki bike, at least in the suzuki forums I am in, with dyno's and such already done on similar bikes from people who have the time and money to do that, dynoing a bike is expensive, and it really doesnt tell you anything but friggen bragging rights or a perfect tune if you are racing. Whats wrong with a placebo effect? if it makes the bike more enjoyable, and possibly actually better to ride or gives it something, maybe smoother, maybe more power at some point in the RPM range, and the rider notices, than sweet, its worth it. It doesnt seem verm is actually racing on a circuit so it doesnt really matter if his bike is tuned perfectly right now. I say save the money you would spend on a dyno, which will only give you bragging rights or useless-for-street-use information. Buy that exhaust at some point or a gel seat or a few different kinds of locks and lo-jack and such.... Or buy another helmet, or spare rubber or good wax or parts for your car, or a car, dont remember if you got one or not. There are much better things to do with that money than have someone tell you that the things you bought dont actually do as much as you thought they did. I aint saying ignorance is bliss but its great to be excited about stuff.
and anyways, the TRE is a very well known mod, it can be done for free on most suzukis, but there are products that can also do it and be removed easy enough too so you dont have to cut wires. I think the powercommander 3's automatically do this as well, though I could be mistaken.
stop telling verm to not enjoy his bike.

yeah, there's a small delay on power delivery on 1st-4th gears bec of the limiter.

it's really obvious when starting from a stop.
Are you sure it's the bike and not your technique?

You say all modern sport bikes have this? I have what most of you would probably consider a mild sportbike (F4i) compared to the latest ones, and mine doesn't have this power delivery delay in 1st-4th gears. Whack the throttle and it goes--no lag.

Hey, at least this mod he's doing actually does something real.

I'm reminded of the resistors on ebay that were supposed to bump HP that sold for $20 that just forced the car to run lean, or something that damaged the engine in the longrun and did absolutely nothing.

copied from my blog...

the TRE is AMAZING!

i got jolted leaving the driveway.

even when at neutral, the rpms raise higher at a lesser throttle input.

power delivery from a stop is great.

shifting is much smoother, power instantly kicks in.

i was gonna go canyon riding today but i'll just go to a parking lot later and work on throttle control and hard braking skills instead. im gonna need to re-learn my bike's throttle response.

i highly recommend this to anynone who has gixxer/busa/TLR/and SV1000. i don't think it works on the SV650.
