Is it just me? Why do most Harley riders not wave back?

It's simple... They're riding Harleys. That automatically makes them @ssholes.

Doesn't it?

(shhh... don't tell em I ride a Harley too).

Dunno, I find I've got about a 75% chance of getting waved at regardless of what kind of bike is passing me.

Once I had a guy flash his brights instead of wave. I spent the next 10 km looking for a speed trap.
Of course I'm generalizing from a single example here, but everyone does that. At least I do.

I get more waves from Harley's than I do sportbikes...but it's not a Harley thing, it's an individual thing...some people do, some don't I still wave anyways...

I wave to pretty much every rider on the road, I don't care what you are riding.

The only ones that I won't wave to are the ones who don't wear the proper gear. If you're wearing shorts/T-shirt/runners/sandals/etc...... I'm not going to wave to you. I don't give a rat's azz how hot out it is, there is gear made for those conditions. If a rider doesn't care enough about their own body to protect it, why should I care about them?

I'll wave at other riders if I see them. If they don't wave, no matter! I'm enjoying my ride so whatever. :) Some wave back, some don't. Heck, I've even missed a few cause I was too late or looking elsewhere.
Ya right, there are only 2 kinds of bikes: It's a Ninja... look that one's a Harley... oh there's a Ninja... Harley...Ninja...

Hi VermilionX,

OC is nice...beautiful, and warm. Yes, around my area I can ride on PCH, with ocean front view, or head over to the canyons for mild or heavy twisties. There's the enfamous Ortega Hwy, where just about everyday there's bound to be one reck.

I've been riding for a month now...put on over 1,400 miles already...and love it. I don't like to drive a car anymore.

Now I'm thinking about what my next bike is going to be after I put on another 4K miles (at least).

Yes, I wave to just about every rider out there, even the scooters. The only ones I don't wave to anymore are those riders who have bikes with pull up bars acting as handlebars...I just don't get it.

so far I haven't gotten many unreturned waves, but if I didn't it could be because they are new riders, or their hands are busy..often I'll get a wave when I'm busy on my clutch, so I give an exaggerated head nod

I wave unless:
- I don't see the other bike until it is too late to wave
- It is unsafe at that moment to take a hand off the bars
- The median is very wide

I sometimes get a tad tired of being expected to wave. It originated when there were few bikers. Here in KC there are a LOT of bikes on the road. Some days I can spend riding more with one hand than with both due to all the waving.

BTW - here in KC, everyone waves at everyone, regardless of brand. Even exchanged some with scooter riders and bicycle riders. We are pretty laid back here.
