I don't know if you caught my comment on this last time, but you may want to check on parts availability for that thing. That's a pretty part-specific model, and I know alot of stuff is no longer available for my regular seca ... I'm betting even less is available for the turbo model (Cuz so few were made)

I would avoid it.

Turbo vanes and bearings wear out over time. Go to your Yamaha dealer and price a new turbo. Then make your decision.

Parts may be exspensive

I agree with Tech, If parts are rare or very expensive from aftermarket you'd be in a heap of trouble. I've had my 84 Interceptor for what seems like forever but parts are becoming sparse and more expensive as time goes by. Do some research before you buy.

And turbos are tender and are apt to puke out on you. Parts availability becomes even more important considering you will most likely be spending some cash on turbos and/or turbo parts.

But even knowing that, I still consider XN-85 and turbo Seca I see...... So far common sense and luck have been on my side, but one day I know I'll give in and burn myself....

Hi AdrianZ!

Smart thing asking about the XJ650R Turbo in the forum! Well done as this bike is most definately a no-no for new bikers.

I own the non turbo XJ650R and it's my 4th motorcycle. Even though it is "only a 650" is a powerful bike and very heavy too for it's engine size over today bikes (mine is a tad over 500lbs).

Too much too soon I would call it, that's all. :D

I never rode the Turbo version of my bike, I hear it isn't any faster in the 1/4 mile. But what I do know is they are EXPENSIVE to fix if the turbo goes and are much more complex in design over the non-turbo XJ650R.

May I ask, how much was it?

Mike.
