That mosquito add

#1 Unread post by flynrider »

Recently (in the past week or so) I've been getting a banner ad that generates an extremely annoying and loud buzzing insect sound. The sound plays continuously until you click to another page. It really makes reading any page with the ad nearly impossible.

I don't mind ads or popunders, but that buzzing ad actually interferes with enjoying the content on the page. I know I can turn off the sound every time I come to TMW, but then I end up forgetting to turn it back on again.

Is there anyway to limit noisy ads? I wish I could tell you whose ad it was, but the darned thing is so annoying that I click away before I get a chance to read it. You'll know it when you hear it.

I'm not certain, but I think people from different areas get different ads.

Mike may be able to find it, to remove it (which he usually does), but if you see it again, get a screen grab to make it easier to find

Sounds like an ad that I killed 2 weeks ago. I know it was a clown and a fly one, so I'll find this one and kill it. I did ban that company from running ads on TMW as they were so annoying but I should be able to find their ads again.

Yes, if you can get a screen shot of it, it makes finding it a lot easier for me. :D

Nibblet99 is correct, people from different countries and even different cities will see different ads. It's called Geo-targeting, some advertisers use it when their product or service is only local.

Thanks Mike! Sorry for the lack of info in my original post. I just assumed that we all got the same ads. That buzzing one sure was annoying, and occasionally embarrasing if I happened to be at work.

You are more than welcome. Ad revenue is the only major source of revenue* TMW makes to pay the bills and even though I need the ads to run I have to consider the visitor as well and thus I try to keep them at a minimum and not annoying at the same time. :D

I personally like the fact that TMW is a free site with no membership fees or that anyone has to pay for anything and I'm sure everyone does appreciate it as well. :D

* Site supporters also make up a small but very important part as well. :D

Have a great day!

You won't have to worry about that ad anymore, it's swatted! :D And you shouldn't see it any longer.

If you do find an overly annoying ad I'm more than happy to kill it to enchance your visiting experience at TMW. :D (how many sites would do that for their visitors..haha)
