Hey Sev, I paid 5 bucks, so I guess I can only complain about 20% of the things you gold site people do eh?

Of course I'm generalizing from a single example here, but everyone does that. At least I do.

I've moved this to the suggestion box as anything a member wants to address reguarding the site I'll know aobut it and can help in this forum.
Even though this thread has been answered quite well, let me put my 1.5 cents in and see if I can help more.

Have a great day all and if you have any other ad concerns please do PM me and I don't bite, much. haha.

Earwig - Yes, Total Motorcycle is my fulltime job. It takes that much work (12 hours a day) and dedication (up to 7 days a week) to keep this valuable resource up and even more valuable to you, all at no cost to members, all I ask is you don't block the ads so I can get the basics to live on and pay the bills of the site.earwig wrote:I am just curious, with all of the support from the members of this site, why is there still a need for pop-ups and ads? Is this someone's full time job to monitor?
Yup, thats me.. haha!black mariah wrote:Really? There's a full-time mod? Haha, damn. I didn't know that. The popups are suddenly less annoying.

Sevulturus, thank you for helping explain this question out and for your ongoing support and help. You are 100% correct in many of your guesses. Running the site isn't cheap and doing it full time requires some sort of income so I can at least afford a non-name brand Mr. Noodle lunch to live on..haha If I get all depressed and work it out, the revenue from the site I take is near proverty. Everytime someone blocks ads it hurts me in a very personal way as I am trying to do is provide a friendly, useful and helpful resource for free for anyone who wants it in the world to help them out. All it "costs" is a few ads and nothing out of anyone's pocket. I do not expect anyone to become a site supporter but many do and I appreciate every one of them. A little bit of money goes a long way.Sevulturus wrote:Having talked to Mike personally about it, I don't envy him his job. It's a ton of work, so if it means I need to stare at a couple of ads once a day when I login I'm not going to complain about it.
Oh and if you really wanted to do the math. Cheap hosting (remember we have 500000 a hits a day) is something like $20-30 a month. And TMW is not cheap hosting (needs to be high bandwidth and VERY reliable with great customer support). So that requires that one new person become a site supporter EVERY month. It doesn't seem that big a deal, though I have to say that personally it took me 3 years to become a site supporter.
So under the assumption that we're probably paying a couple hundred a month to keep the site up and running, that means we need quite a few people donating every month in order to keep the site up. This is unprobable and unlikely in the extreme. Aside from that, it's not a steady cash flow. He might get 4 people to become gold support one month and 0 for the next 3 months.
Ads provide a constant, reliable income (with supplementar donations) to keep the site that we've come to know and love up and running.

I really don't know how to react or what to say about that Bok... haha
For those who do not know, my bike is 24 years old, I paid $860 for it, it doesn't like to start 100% of the time and it needs new tires. That's what I ride, a real mans classic bike, arrrr.

Now I want a raise. haha. Or at least a bike with radial tires!

Mike.

Do you get money if someone clicks on one of the ads? Or are you just paid for having them pop up or under or whatever?
Of course I'm generalizing from a single example here, but everyone does that. At least I do.
