There's no way I'd be at work for 10 hours and only get paid for 8. That's, yanno, against the law, and I'll never be so dedicated to a place of business that I will donate them my time for free.flynrider wrote:Not really. It depends on the job. I get paid for 8 hours a day, but I'm usually here for 10 or 12 hrs.

I see your point jonnythan. I guess working lots of extra unpaid hours depends if you really love what you are doing OR just can't get away and you feel the job needs to get done, and done right OR you can't loose your job and are worried if you didn't work the extra hours you would.jonnythan wrote:There's no way I'd be at work for 10 hours and only get paid for 8. Not if you are on salary like me. You gotta take the good with the bad in that case. There are some days I am here 10 hours. Sometimes I have to work all day and then come in after 9 pm to do system maintence or add servers to the rack or whatever.jonnythan wrote:There's no way I'd be at work for 10 hours and only get paid for 8. On the other hand, there are days where it is too nice outside to be in the office, so I leave 2 hours early and take a ride. Or leave a hour early to meet my family for dinner at 5. Or take a 2 hour lunch. Or come in an hour late. And my boss is fair. If we put in a lot of extra time beyond normal, like Saturdays or Sundays, he'll offer us 2 hours off for every hour worked.
It all works out in the end.
A dog had his chain reduced one link at a time, every few days, until his chain was so short he could barely move. He never resisted because he was conditioned to the loss of his freedom slowly, over time. Are we in this country becoming like the dog?

I work with some people who get paid for 8 hours of work, but because they are so worthless, they have to work for 10-12 hours just to accomplish what they should be able to do in the 8 hours. Others, work 10-12 hours because they love what they do.
I work 12-13 because I don't get paid by the hour. Every job and person is different.
