Sticking Throttle Problem

I recently purchased a 1979 Suzuki GS 750 L that looks like new, but I am having problems with the throttle sticking. If I give the throttle a quick snap, it idles down. I have checked, and the throttle cable pully is always tight againts the idle stop. I took the tops off the carbs, and everything looks tight. Anyone have an idea what may be causing this problem?

you might just need to give the cable a shot of lubrication

It isn't the cable, because the pully is always tight against the idle adjustment screw, yet the engine races till I snap the throttle.

Just to make sure, check that you have a small amount of freeplay in the throttle cable. The choke might be sticking a bit as well. and while your checking stuff, you can try adjusting the idle mixture screws. Just make small adjustments and test the return to idle before making another adjustment.

And it NEVER hurts to lube your cables. Silky smooth action is always welcome in the controls.
