Attack of the show however is quality entertainment. If you have G4 make sure it's programmed on your DVR or Tivo or just watch it.

The moment violent video games are banned I'm going to go on a killing spree and blame it on the fact that I can no longer vent in the virtual world.

yeah im violent after playing video games. I use video games to relax me after a stressful day.

So I was sitting there playing Grand Theft Auto and gnawing the flesh off a human hand when I realised this Jack Thompson guy might actually have something intellegent to say.

I mean violent media started with videogames, prior to that there were never any conflicts in consumer products. Comic books, tv, movies, novels, billboards everything was perfectly pleasant and everyone had a smile on their face.

Then... all of a sudden we get these murder simulators, in which it's acceptable to kill a prostitute for her money and hen molest the corpse... What is coming of our world? And then our young impressionable kids go out and actually commit these atrocities upon their fellow man because they don't know any better.

Then I pulled my head out of my "O Ring".

1) It's a shitty parent that allows a young kid to play a videogame with a M rating... I used to work at a movie theater and I would see parents taking toddlers into R and pg-13 movies. I saw a baby go into LotR. My friends have worked in EB and it's not unusual for a soccer mom to buy a game like GTA for their young kids
2) Videogames make an easy excuse. If you got caught killing someone would you say A) Yessir it's my fault, I knew I was killing him, please give me the chair OR B) Videogames made me do it
3) The most memorable event of videogame related violence was for me the young man who recreated the washroom/LRT zone from Duke Nukem with a shotgun. Of course he was insanely high on cocainne at the time...

Blaming videogames for the violence in a society where weapons - most specifically handguns and rifles are easily availble, along with all sorts of illegal mind altering substances. If you have a weapon you're going to use it, whether you play videogames or not.

I could go off on the cathardic effects of virtual violence - similar to punching a pillow while you're pissed off, but that's just beating a dead horse.

Now if you'll excuse me, I have a hand to finish eating.

Oh wait, there seems to be a big flaw here... What if (and this is just a real long shot) violent people are attracted to violent images?

Games didn't make them that way, their upbringing did. The fact they then play games has no bearing on the fact they were already violent.

All the links between the 2 seem to be half-arsed badly inferred information to me. too many people plucking a theory out of the air, and then finding evidence to support it, when instead they should be trying to disprove their own theories. The latter actually being a far more reliable way of learning how the world works

wait a minute here. Allowing a child to play a rated M game and allowing a child who can understand the differences play a rated M game is 2 different things. I let my son play ut2004 and serious sam 2. Now they dont have real people in it and he is under 13 but explaining things about the game and how it isnt real goes a long way to making a child understand and comprehend along with using common sense. If my son started walking around talking about killing people then I would realize "hey he needs a break from gaming to understand that its not real".

Now I am by no means a perfect parent as my son did have nightmares one night. I didnt let him play those games for almost a year because of it. Now he plays them but I only allow it 1x/week for at most an hour. So just because they are under 13 doesnt mean they cant play and understand the difference. My son doesnt run around the house yelling im going to kill you or anything like that. Nor does he get mad if something isnt going his way. Just because he is under 13 doesnt mean I cant let him play it. You just have to watch for signs that your child isnt comprehending the difference between real life and video games. Most parents most likely dont see that difference however.
