The ability to disable one of those systems is a snap. In up in a couple of minutes, you can pull off the console cover, pull out the switch, (that is very much like a brake light switch.) and the driver can now watch and drive.jonnythan wrote:The systems are very hard to impossible to disable. Drivers do not regularly watch DVDs on these systems while they drive.
Installers are now getting customers to sign off a declaration that the safty switch was installed when the car left their lot, it's the only way they're able to prevent law suits for improper installation as well as fines for not putting them in. The owner then goes home, pops the switch out and away he goes...
I have followed many cars with the front dvd player running a movie while the car is speeding down the freeway. I prefer the new design that's out. The passenger can see the movie, but the driver gets stuck watching his GPS screen. It works on the same principle as those blinky plastic, motion novelties.
When there's a will, there's a way, and drivers will eventually over-ride that system as well.
