It won't hurt to try out.

This may be harsh, but it's a little late in the game to worry about conditioning. What shape you're in is a direct reflection of your personal discipline. If the coach sees you're out of shape, as a senior, he'll wonder why you haven't been working since the end of season last year to get into shape. Does it take actually having a roster spot to motivate you?

I hope it works out, and sorry for the rant. Let us know.

In all fairness though, nearly everybody regressed in the summer. I did. I know my teammates did. Unless you were in a summer sport, training discipline dropped.

Soccer was a fall sport, coincided with our basketball season. So, it definitely hurt, not so much tryouts, but more so the workouts leading up to preseason and season.

A good coach will get his team in condition anyway. Some will have more work to do than others. As for as the training schedule. its been my experience to peak the athletes for post season, as opposed to season opener.

Get out there and do it. You'll regret it a lot more if you never try then in if you go and get cut.
Of course I'm generalizing from a single example here, but everyone does that. At least I do.
