Arrested as he sped to dentist’s at 182km/h

JOHANNESBURG – At 182km/h a man was rushing to help his friend who had a toothache, and another doing 192km/h said he was trying to get away from robbers.
They are two of 10 drivers arrested at the weekend for reckless and negligent driving on the N3 highway near Germiston, said metro police spokesman Inspector Jimmy Maboko.
Five BMW drivers, including the man who claimed to be escaping from robbers, were arrested.
Two were driving at 215km/h, one at 193km/h and another at 210km/h.
Two Volkswagen Jettas, one of which was driven by the man going to help his friend with toothache, and another claiming to be from crime intelligence, were clocked at 182km/h and 186km/h respectively.
The driver of a Toyota Corolla was arrested for travelling at 188 km/h.
Also arrested were the drivers of a Suzuki motorcycle and a Honda Ballade for speeds of 184km/h and 207km/h respectively.
The drivers were detained at the Germiston police station, and they are scheduled to appear in court today.
They were offered bail of R1 000. – Sapa.
