Wow, I'm blown away from the very positive comments, feedback and support, thank you all so much for understanding.

It does and has taken a lot of hard work to get to this stage and I of course could not do it alone, I have a lot of help from our Moderators (19 of them) http://totalmotorcycle.com/BBS/groupcp.php?g=50 who unselfishly love to help out their fellow riders, the TMW community and do it all with a smile. :D

Ninja79, if you have time, read this topic: http://totalmotorcycle.com/BBS/viewtopic.php?t=13502 I've chatted quite a bit about it there and you might find it informative. :D

I'll check how many I can kill right now and I'm sure I can reduce something. :D As long as I own TMW, TMW will always hold it's visitors and members in the highest interest.

Yes, I was offered a good pile of money $19,240 US to sell your email addresses: http://totalmotorcycle.com/BBS/viewtopic.php?t=6739 but I turned it down right away as that is how much I value everyone who comes to Total Motorcycle, you are all worth more than money to me. BTW, That would now be: $33,300 USD! $33,300 is very tempting to anyone but it's not worth the trust you have all placed in me, our staff and Total Motorcycle. :D

I hold the motto: Live by your word and I believe leading by example is better than leading by words; leading be respect is better than leading by fear.

Oh, and yes, I do have no-name Mr. Noodles on a daily basis and Total Motorcycle requires a lot of time so it is my full time job. I start at 7am and finish at 5pm so if you ever need anything, I'm here for you.

I was able to kill 5 popup advertisers this morning thanks to the help of a donation of zed who became a Silver Site Supporter. :D

Zed is just one of 58 site supporters walloffame.htm who have unselfishly donated just a little bit to help out and support motorcyclists and motorcycling through Total Motorcycle.com

As always, I never expect anyone to become a site supporter as just visiting and contributing to Total Motorcycle for me is support enough. But I do very much appreciate any help financially.

Thank you to Zed and all those who have supported in the past by being a site supporter. :D

To be clear, I don't care about banner ads. However, popups are clearly unethical, especially when they attempt to evade popup blockers.

I challenge you to explain to me how the "pop-unders" that Mike uses are unethical.

You should only be getting three a day, that show up underneath your main TMW window, meaning you get a little flashy task bar that you can right click and close.

Perhaps the popups that you are blaming on TMW are coming from spyware on your computer... in fact... if memory serves most free popup blockers come with spyware that actually gives you more popups. Try switching to firefox.
Of course I'm generalizing from a single example here, but everyone does that. At least I do.

An unethical action is one that is said to cause harm to someone or something. You are not harmed by these popups appearing. You may consider yourself to be slightly inconvienced, but that is not unethical treatment. If that were true, waiting in line at the bank is unethical treatment, having to drive to work in rush hour is unethical because it takes a little longer to get there.

As for pop-unders. Ignore them! Or simply right click and close. You don't even need to look at them. When I do that I never even have to see what the advert is for, because it stays under firefox. I can keep reading whatever I'm reading while doing my right clicking. Popunders are (to me) far less intrusive.

Firefox allows you to install extensions which can and will block every popup, popunder, and banner ad that appears. The fact you claim to be using a third party popup blocker is indicates to me that you probably have problems beyond the TMW popunders.

Finally, run yourself a couple of spyware checkers just in case.

Yes, you may also be "slightly inconvenienced" by spam and sales phone calls but it doesn't actually hurt you, right? Just ignore them!

Cut the crap Sevulturus! You are simultaneously trying to downplay popunders while saying "wasn't me". You are full of "poo poo" and you know it. I never said I use "third party" popup blocker. Mozilla has a built-in popup blocker that works most of the time. I will check out popup blocking extentions though.

Everytime you block a popup, you take money out of Mike's pocket. That is how he pays for this site, can you not understand that concept???

Mike doesn't ask much of those people that use TMW, no fees, just a few popups. If they are really annoying ones, he usually will delete them on request.

If enough people became site supporters, maybe he could eliminate them completely... But I guess you're not into donating either, right???

As Ninja79 seems to only want to start a flame war I'll be locking this topic. I am disappointed that it has to come to this from one poster.

Ninja79, I suggest you read this when you have time: http://totalmotorcycle.com/BBS/viewtopic.php?t=13502 I've chatted quite a bit about popups there and you might find it informative.

In closing, I apologise for your inconvenience, however if I did not run ads on this site it would not exist.

Thank you to all those who support this site and who have tried to explain why ads exist on the internet.
