Rupert Toy Run hits 25 years

For the past 24 years North Coast motorcycle enthusiasts have hit the roads around Prince Rupert to help raise money and gifts for those in need as the holiday season approaches, and at one p.m. on Saturday, November 11, bikers will mark the 25th anniversary of the toy run.

"We will all be assembling at the Salvation Army and when we leave there we will be going to city hall where we will be receiving acknowledgement of the 25 years of donating to the local Salvation Army," said Marc Desautels with the Prince Rupert Harley Davidson Riders Club which is organizing the event although riders of any and all motorcycles are invited and encouraged to participate in the toy run.

"This is our 25th year and it is estimated that we have donated $141,000 to the Salvation Army in that time-We estimate that we have also donated 6,500 toys. The cost to get into the dance is the donation of a toy which we then donate to the Salvation Army for underprivileged children in the community."

During the day the bikers will be participating in a poker run, which involves picking up five cards at five different locations throughout town, with the best poker hand and worst poker hand splitting the pot of money collected from the riders.
