Motorcycle caravan passes through Grand Prairie to Dallas Vietnam Memorial
Wednesday, November 15, 2006 - The Arlington News - thearlingtonnews.com

One-by-one; two-by-two and then before long, hundreds of motorcycles crammed into the eastern parking lot at Ameriquest Field in Arlington, Texas for the annual ride to the Texas Vietnam Memorial Wall at Fair Park in Dallas.

The caravan met in Arlington at 12:00 p.m. and was then escorted to Highway 360 by a collective collaboration of Arlington and mostly Grand Prairie police.

Driving two motorcycles per row, they monstrous group treked their way from the Ballpark in Arlington to Abrams and then onto southbound 360. This year's journey had to resort to an eastern path down I-20 due to the demolishion of the Carrier Parkway over I-30. The extremely fragile demolition prompted Texas Department of Transportation to close all of I-30 for the entire weekend while contractors removed old steel truss beams and plowed dirt.

But despite the detour, the group of motorcycles paved their own path eastbound on I-30; as far as the eye can see from the I-20/360 flyover. Grand Prairie police temporarily halted traffic along 360, I-20 and Highway 67 as the group progressed to Fair Park in Dallas, where the ultimate destination was plotted.

"The police escort and their support is what has made this dream possible," said Greg "Guns" Readi. "We couldn't have done it without them."

The memorial was officially dedicated on Saturday the 11th of November, 1989 with a visit from President George Bush Sr.

All proceeds raised Saturday will go to the maintenance fund of the "Friends of the Texas Vietnam Memorial".
