Part of me hurts to see this incroachment on personal liberties. The other part of me says it will do good to help keep the squidly college student with a new R1 from killing himself. I'm not sure how I feel about it. BTW, don't other countries have designated motorcycle riding seasons?totalmotorcycle wrote:Motorcycles not allowed on University of St. Thomas, Minnesota USA campus over the winter

Is that for all riders (teachers or students) and all bikes? ($200 junker to $60,000 full dresser?)JCS wrote:Try riding your motorcycle on to the campus at Notre Dame and see how far you get.

sounds like a dumb rule to me. Most people won't take their bikes out if there is snow on the road or it is freezing (present company excluded). I think they are trying too hard to legeslate common sense. All I know is that up here in Canada you have to insure a motorcycle for the entire year ( insurance companies are crooks ) so I am going to ride every chance I get.
Now if I was paying massive amounts of money to attend college/university I will drive my bike whenever I want. I am assuming this some students only mode of transport

What happens when you have a nice day in the winter, it warm, the streets are clear and it is safe to ride. I can understand why the University came up with the idea, but they should not impose it upon a select group because they stand out from the rest.

Mike.
The way that it was explained by their security officer and supervisor is that no motorcycles are allowed on the campus. This was after quite a bit of heated discussion.
At the time I had 2 kids in school there and had saddlebags full of stuff to deliver to them. I was told (after I specifically asked) that if I was driving my cage I could drive right up to the dorms. On my bike I was refused admission to the campus.
I agreed to cooperate at that time. I also parked my bike in front of the guard shack and made the security supervisor haul me and my saddlebags to the dorm door and pick me up when I was ready to leave.
He was not happy to do this but at the time I was enraged. When stopped at the gate I just shut the bike off, put the kickstand down and asked for the supervisor. Guard said to move my bike. I said "Sure. When your boss gets here!"
What a way to foul up traffic.
I would be the old, slow guy. Just let me know where you are going and I'll try to get there before you leave.
