weapons on a bike?

I read in a previous post that somone wanted to carry a "weapon" on a bike.

Im only 17 and i live in a small town so i dont think i would need a gun. But what else could be considered a weapon? a sword? a knife?

im just kind of questioning what a "weapon" is.... do i need one?

I usually have a knife somewhere on me, though it's more of a utility thing. Something with a half serrated blade would be best for sawing though tough material. Best case scenerio is to keep it (or any weapon) in a tank bag. Ecspecially if it's an assisted open knife and you forget to lock the blade (almost took my thumb off, heh). Which brings me to another point. Have some clue how to use what ever it is you have. If it's a gun, you'd sure as hell better know how to safely use it (if it IS a gun, get something with multiple safeties, glock like). If it's a knife, learn how to open it fastly with only one hand (one of the benefits of an assisted open knife). Also, make sure what ever it is is LEGAL to carry. All of my blades are legal to carry (no automatics, and the blade can't be more than 3.25 inches or so if my memory serves me). Obviously there are exceptions (hunter wouldn't use a 3.25" fixed blade to skin a large animal).

Age doesn't matter whenmaturity counts (sword??? what in the world?). First, check the laws on what you are are legally allowed to carry under 18 or 21 (firearm-wise). At the least, carry a nice all around pocketknife.

A "weapon" is any object that you use to inflict harm and pain on someone else. I could make an evening bag into a weapon. Are you seriously asking the definition of "weapon"? If so, you may want to approach things slowly

I do agree on the later part. The most important weapon is your mind. Take that as you will but at the least take that to mean training.

I think that for most people, the "need" to carry a weapon stems from something going on with their personality rather than any real necessity for self-defense. It's a fairly common topic in motorcycle forums considering that it's not really a motorcycle related topic. Some people are quite vocal about it but i guess it's their right.

I think that for most people, the "need" to criticize those that make other choices stems from personal insecurity and lack of education.

Of course I am aware regional differences and actual experience makes a difference as well.
