st st studder problem

I own a 1999 vz800 mauarder and during cruising speeds and hard acceleration the bike studders , at idle you can hear and feel a noticable difference between the front and rear cylinder (v twin) the front isnt steady and i'm curious if its a spark or carb problem, you can really feel the diffenece in exhaust pressure if you put your hand in front of the exhaust. However the bike sat with gas in it for a year, currenty i am running marvel oil with the gas. If it would be a carb problem any specifics, because it does accelerate when push just studders along the way so i dont want to get into the carbs if I dont have to. Thanks

Take the carbs off and get them cleaned. Then replace the spark plugs.

1 year with gas will shellac all of the TINY little openings in the carbs and greatly impede the flow of fuel through them. Which is probably the cause of your stuttering problem. Basically you're not pulling fuel fast enough under heavy throttle.

hi there......

i have a simmilar prob. on my '87 VMax.

however, after riding for awhile... (20 minutes plus) the problem suddenly dissappears.

it's strange....

if it's parked for 1 hour - 2 hours, and i ride again, it's still okay.

after a day or so... the whole problem re-appears.

I've taken it to the bike shop, and they've
1. changed the main jet (slightly bigger)
2. cleaned and tuned the carbs
3. changed the plugs
4. clean the air filters

Could it be an electrical fault somewhere?
