You realize that's a function of your computers resolution settings, not the physical dimensions of the monitor, right?

LoL, no. An LCD has a native resolution in which everything "appears best." But with a little fine0tuned adjustment it's remarkably simple to get it to look perfect on any resolution your video card is capable of producing.

The limiting factor these days as far as resolutions are concerned is usually your video card.

a LCD monitor is made specifically for one set of vertical and horizontal pixels. if you change the resolution it will strech/shrink the picture.. sure you could tune it but why would anyone bother??

Because you can, and it's annoying to be limited by what someone else thinks you should be watching in.

Of course when I buy my LCD's I tend to shell out for widescreen. 1440X900 is pretty common, and very convenient.

I've a 19" LCD monitor that I run on 1024 x 768 most of the time but it can go up as high as 1280 x (something) [I'm not on it right now] and it looks fine. I'd use it as my normal every day res but at that high the icons are too damn small to see so I only use it for movies and the like.

I'm pretty sure any difference you're seeing on an LCD due to resolution is either imagined or due to a crappy monitor.



And back to the original question, yah the long stretched out sig images are annoying but I just ad block them if they're excessively long. Someone had a huge sig of two baby eyes staring at me. While cool (slightly creepy...) they wound up being blocked with AdBlock extension. I've only had to block two people's signatures though. One of them was probably yours though lol.

As for images that go over the scroll bar, another extension, called MouseGestures, fixes that. You can right click and move your mouse up diaganoly to the left and it reduces the size of the image (and alternatively you can move it down and to the right to increase the size).

Actually most LCD's are designed to run at an "optimal native resolution." Which will give the best display characteristics for that given LCD. However some massaging of various contrast, color, and other settings will alleviate any problems you happen to bump into.
