hmmmm... I have a VTR 1000F, and do about 20,000+ kms a year, I have no problem in riding 500-1000kms in a day, so, I guess touring on a superhawk is possible

So now ya have heard someone say a superhawk can be a tourer

back in ya box please!!!!

If you read my post you would realize that I do it too....but I sure as hell would not recommend it as a tourer! I've filled that thing up 8 times in one day riding 1100 km. Sure it can be done, but would I recommend it as a tourer? There are better options.

I saw some one selling long rang tanks for the superhawk on Ebay, they have taken an origanl tank and welded a section to the top increasing the capacity to 28 litres, thats an extra 9 which would put its range about 300+ kms. Now thats what I call a tourer!!!!

I used to have a link to a site where they made oversized tanks for the VTR and I've been tempted, but they wanted a lot of $$$ and I couldn't justify it for an older bike. In N.A. we never did get the 19 litre tank version sold in other markets but I've also thought about going that route and having one shipped form overseas.
Basically I spent the first few years waiting for an updated VTR to come along and the last few thinking that it was almost time to get something else. It's a great bike though, and I'll miss it if I ever sell it.
What size of tank are you running? Whats your range?

Im on my 2nd vtr, I bought the 2006 last year, it has the 19.3 litre tank.

Mileage around the city traffic, which is what I mainly ride, is about 200kms, out on the freeways/highways on trips, I have got 300kms on one tank before (tail winds arnt they great:)), but then I did a trip a few weeks ago and had the meanest head/cross winds I ever known for nearly 400kms and I was getting less than 150kms a tank, but im talking the kind of winds where I was laying on the tank and still was being near ripped off the bike constantly, Im sure you have had those kind of rides.

What year is yours? and what sort of rang do you get.

And did I hear you right, that US/Canada VTR's have different sized tanks???

That is incredicble range for a VTR. I'm still on my original VTR, serial #120 from May 1997. It has 55K on the clock ( I've got a few other bikes) and it has the 16 litre tank. In about the year 2001 I believe that the rest of the world got the tank bumped up from 16-19 litres, but they would have had to recertify the model so we never got the change. After a really good tune I can get 220 km riding in the rain, short shifting and barely on the throttle (highway). Normally 180km is all I get, and I've got as low as 140km when on the gas. I'd be happy top get the range you are getting. Where I ride there aren't towns evenly spread across the country side. Often,(and I mean quite often) I have to fill up at 120 km so I can make it to the next town....
After 10 years, it's getting a little old!

usually at 200kms i start thinking about looking for a servo.

Look when I get on the throttle and give it a hard time I get lousy fuel economy, I find on the open road with mine that 4500rpm in 6th which puts you at about 120-130kmh is a good fuel efficiant speed to sit on.

The extra litres I have on you is where Im getting the extra 50-60kms range from...sounds like both our bikes are running pretty much the same, tell you what though, i put an MRA double bubble race screen on mine and I think I get even better mileage from it now as the windblast hits me in the top of the helmet now instead of in the chest with the OEM screen.

Like you, I love my VTR's nothing they wont do and they will do it all day too
