My brother-in law just picked up a 535 Virago. How the heck do you check the oil on this thing? There is an inspection cover on the left side, but I don't see any oil when I look in there. Help.
People say I'm stupid and apathetic. I don't know what that means, and I don't care.

There's oil seeping out the right side engine cover so I know there's some oil inside. I don't see a sight glass or anyplace you can see the level of oil. I just don't believe that we need to fill the left engine dase with a couple quarts of oil.

Is there a dipstick attached to the filler cap? And if there isnt, WAS there one that just broke off?Johnj wrote:There's oil seeping out the right side engine cover so I know there's some oil inside. Ahhh... I found a pdf owners manual online. There is a sight glass on the left side, low on the engine. I don't know how we missed it.

I feel your pain. I bought a 89 Yamaha 250 with an oil leak, and had the sight glass, but I couldn't discern the oil level. So I fixed the oil leak, and changed the oil. And I still cannot tell what level the oil is at. But I rest assured that the right amount is in there now. This bike is an occasional rider, so the oil changes will just have to be more frequent.
Good luck with the 535.
