My brother-in law just picked up a 535 Virago. How the heck do you check the oil on this thing? There is an inspection cover on the left side, but I don't see any oil when I look in there. Help.
People say I'm stupid and apathetic. I don't know what that means, and I don't care.

Stupid question: are you sure there's oil in it?
Of course I'm generalizing from a single example here, but everyone does that. At least I do.

There's oil seeping out the right side engine cover so I know there's some oil inside. I don't see a sight glass or anyplace you can see the level of oil. I just don't believe that we need to fill the left engine dase with a couple quarts of oil.

Is there a dipstick attached to the filler cap? And if there isnt, WAS there one that just broke off?

Ahhh... I found a pdf owners manual online. There is a sight glass on the left side, low on the engine. I don't know how we missed it.

I feel your pain. I bought a 89 Yamaha 250 with an oil leak, and had the sight glass, but I couldn't discern the oil level. So I fixed the oil leak, and changed the oil. And I still cannot tell what level the oil is at. But I rest assured that the right amount is in there now. This bike is an occasional rider, so the oil changes will just have to be more frequent. :? Good luck with the 535.
