Starter Clutch from Ebay - Slightly damaged
Starter Clutch from Ebay - Slightly damaged
Hey guys, I just orderd a starter cltuch for my Honda CB650, 1979.
The springs appear to be garbage, they are worn and deformed, lost most the spring in them. That's fine, these can be replased cheap.
However, the starter clutch itself has some wearing on it already, and I'm curious to know if it is going to cause the bike to not start, or make that "whiiiiiiiiiiir" sound still. I haven't seen my SC to compare the damage, but I'm wondering how much damage there has to be to have a problem.
Thanks!

I'd say you just pissed your money away on a beat up starter clutch. Starter clutches don't like any abnormalities. Please pull out your wallet and do it right the first time and buy a NEW ONE
Not being harsh, you never know if you don't try. I just like doing a job ONCE. Good luck.

CHECK YOUR TIRE PRESSURE REGULARLY!!!

Hey man i just had this problem
i have honda cb 650 from 1980 and i had the same problem with the starter clutch and springs and rollers.
You can probably get new springs to put in and it could last you to the winter but if the springs are worn at all they are garbage. If the starter clutch has ANY wear at all its gonna make a weird sound and wont start unless the engine is warm. Mine only had a few nicks in it no longer than half my fingernail and it wouldnt start unless i tried for like 10 mins
Hope i could help keep us posted!!!!

starter clutch
hey i've just bought an old 1980 honda cb650 custom and im not sure but i think its the starter clutch. the starter is good but when i put my finger on the sprocket i can turn it easily. what part and or parts do i have to get and how to i fix it? any ideas on where i can get the parts?
check and see if an expanding pin holding the gear onto the starter is good, then u might have to replace clutch,
you can generally get any starter parts pretty easily from the manufacturer.

Hate to give you the bad news, but on a 79 CB 650 you have to split the cases to replace the startor clutch. The springs only give enough pressure to push the rollers towards the gear. The main thing is that the rollers grab onto the gear when turned in the proper direction.
