My first day of actual riding

I saw a report on the news about how even hands free devices are just as bad as using a cellphone. I can drive perfectly with 1 hand, although my reaction time may be impaired, the point is I can drive just as responsibly with 1 hand. What I'm saying is that if I had a hands free cellphone, it'd still be just as bad as if I were just holding it with my free hand.

Along with the cell phone guys keep an eye out for the people eating, putting on makeup, distracted by the kiddies in the back, reading, changing their clothes, scared of their own vehicles, using their vehicles for the purposes of homicidal tendencies, driving... heck, just watch all of them...

isnt that first day out riding awsome? everything feels new, the way speed feels, the wind, figuring out where to shift, how the power works and when should I start leaning for this turn or what will happen during braking at different speeds and trying to read people driving.... its just a great time.

It will not remove their temptation, it will only force commuters to watch out for police who may spot them on their phone. Answering and talking on a phone is a necessity to some people, no matter the time or place. A cell phone ban will not fix the problem, but futher distract drivers from the road because they will be watching for police! If I ever get pulled over for talking on a cell, i'll just laugh and take the ticket. What stops people from paying the fine and making sure they will not be caught again? Doubtful such a law would literally affect one's driving record or remove available points.

A cell phone ban is stupid. Frankly, i'm sick of hearing everyone complain and stereotype all cell phone drivers. Only because some idiots can't handle driving with one hand does not mean EVERYONE on their cell deems a threat to the public.

If they're being careful of cops that means they're watching the road, and I'm good with that!

Not meaning to pick faults, but some people drive ok, when legally drunk too.... so shouldn't they legalise that too then?

Every study where cell phones have been compared to intoxication when driving, has shown cell phones to be worse... Hell they even tested it on mythbusters at one point.

The comment "A cellphone ban is stupid" is stupid. Have you even been on a motorcycle, or read posts on this site? I mean come on. Sounds like someone is defending their bad behavior here.

Pull over to make your damn call. Everyone seems to think the car is a mobile office. Can't you stay off the phone for a few minutes and concentrate on the act of moving a ton or so of steel? Sheesh.

Honestly, people who drive and talk on the phone drive me up the frikken wall. It should be BANNED. As should people who put those screens in the front seat to watch movies while they drive.

I do not talk on the phone while I drive, if it's an extreme emergency I'll use the hands free, say, "I'll call you back!" and hang up. Stupid cagers have no idea wtf their doing half the time regardless, I'm amazed every day on how stupid people are when they get behind the wheel (especially when they drive a SUV and have 1 child crying in the backseat...I don't CARE that you paid $100 to fill up that pos of a gas guzzler of yours, that's your fault PAY ATTENTION TO THE GD ROAD).

Anyway.

I think I mentioned in an earlier reply that I would never try to talk while riding.

And like I have been saying, I am capable of talking on a phone while concentrating on the road. I can hear, see, and maneuver through traffic just fine while on a cell. I suppose it's just the other idiots that screw it up for everyone.

But I think the difference is that I do not delve into conversations while driving like others do. I see many people talking on a cell for more than 15 minutes while commuting when others will only exchange words for a minute. The longer they are on the phone, the more likely the chance they will not pay as much attention as they should be.

Oh and I would like to see a report that explains the idea of cell phone use having more of an effect than drunk driving. It sounds like a hoax to me. Alcohol impairs the vision, depth of perception, reaction times, among other things. A cell phone impairs one arm.
