I got a message from dr_bar. He was fuelling in Mont-Joli. He has taken the long way around for some reason. I guess he wanted to ride the coastline. I sure hope the east coast weather is better thas the west coast weather right now. It's a heavy downpour here today. Typical June day.
He should be in New Brunswick somewhere by now.

Fri. I made it from Ottawa to Deshambault Que. I left Ottawa late so I would miss the morning rush, that sort of worked... I hit every kinda of back up that day. Still heavy in Ottawa, damn construction on route, and when I hit Mtl. Holy Crapola... Why didn't someone warn me to avoid that place?? Apparently it's the Mtl. Grand Prix this weekend There wasn't a clear street in the city... Got to Trois Rivieres and there was an accident on a bridge I had to cross... It just took forever...

I pulled off the hwy at Deschambault only because I needed gas, and there was a hotel there. When I road to the hotel from the gasw station, I passed a motorcycle accessories shop. Tons of stuff in the window to peek at, the funny thing is, that was the shop I ordered my trailer hitch from. I made sure to stop in and snap a couple of pictures after saying hello to the staff and thanking them for such a great hitch, (I also told them of a problem with the install that I was able to correct.)

Sat. I drove from Deshambault to Campbellton NB. I would have gone further but the weather got to me, from Mont-Joli Que. to Campbellton, it rained so hard that at sometimes, I could hardly see the road. I almost lost it in a orner so between that and the weather, I called it a day. Of course, the weather changed as soon as I booked a room...

The reason I took this route was on the advice of someone that has driven it several times. I was told it was a nicer route , (read: not as boring) than going south at Riviere-du Loup

Well, time runs and plans change... As it stands now, I'm by-passing my most looked forward to portion of the trip due to time constraints. I'm heading to Dartmouth NS tomorrow, it's just down the road. Being such a short trip, it will give me a chance to do a couple of needed fixes to the bike.

1. I need to replace the antenna on my bike. The current one is a license plate mount and it is flexing the fender mount so much the mount may fail.
2. Also in regards to my radio, the communication cable has a mount on the tank, it's held on with two faced tape. Not a good quality one though. Time to fix that before I lose a part.
3. I also have to give the bike a good cleaning, the few quick ones enroute just haven't done the bike justice.
4. When I got my tires mounted before the trip, I asked for the shop to replace a broken brace on the valve stem, they couldn't find one locally. I have found one on the road but have yet to put it on... I guess that happens tomorrow, (today) as well.

So, where am I tonight??? I rode to Truro NS Via a winding coastal road that didn't show a whole lot of coast. I love following directions from people "In The Know". Apparently there was another road a bit closer to the water that would have given me some beautiful sights.

If there's one thing I've learned on this trip, it's don't try to stick to a planned schedule. I have tried to do this and as a result have missed some beautiful riding and sights. Next time, yes there will be a next time, I will have to give myself more time and a less strict plan as to where and when I want to be.

Now, thanks to sev, I got new brake pads installed in Edmonton.

I got all the ingrediants for an oil change in Calgary and pulled that off without a hitch before I left there for the rest of the tour. I imagine it will be getting close to another change soon. In Calgary, I bought an oil change pan that captures the oil and you can drop it off at a recycler after the pan is full.

On the road it can be as simple as an aluminium roasting pan available in any grocery store then pour the used oil back into the empty containers. (This was the idea of blues2cruise, I think she's pyurdeadbrillyant, [mumbled with your worst scotish accent]... )
