650 v-star 1998 leaking gas

#1 Unread post by jerseyscoots »

My 1998 Yamaha V-Star has been garaged and not started for about 6 years. I changed the oil and drained and replaced the gas. When I turn the ignition on, the fuel pump runs but gas is pouring out of a "hose to nowhere" that sits behind the air filter housing and is secured to the frame. This appears to be somesort of breather or overflow hose. Can anyone help me and let me know what this is? By the way, the bike will not start but turns over fine.

Sounds like your didn't store your bike properly and the gas in the carbs turned to varnish. My guess is that your seat/needle has gunk in it keeping it from closing properly and all the excess gas it's letting in is going right out the overflow.

You'll need to take the carbs off and clean them. Best bet is a rebuild kit.
