Full gear or not?

#1 Unread post by Keyoke »

So, how many of you actually wear full gear?

How many of you realise how important it is?

Nowadays i dont like to go out in anything les than Helmet, Gloves, proper jacket and my bike boots.

I dont feel particularly safe in jeans rather than my leathers - and only ever do realy short journets without them.

So what about the rest of you?....

Going to campus/class, I just don my full-face helmet, leather riding jacket, Draggin' Jeans, leather gloves and hiking boots that come over my ankle.

Anything more than that and I wear my Oxtar boots in addition and sometimes the pants from my Roadcrafter suit (my jacket was the wrong size, my new one should be here... today :D ).

Proper riding gear is very important because you never know what "might" happen when you go out on your bike. You may be a good rider, but you have no idea how good of a driver that cager is turning left in front of you......

I have seen (and cringed) at riders who like to wear shorts, T-shirts and sandles riding down the road or on the highway. I can understand that it is HOT outside and everyone sweats and gets uncomfortable. I can relate as when it gets really HOT outside and I'm on my bike I'm wearing full gear and I'm hot! It would be nice to just wear "beach clothes" but then I realise that I'd like to ride for the rest of my life and then being hot isn't so bad. At least it's cool when I'm riding and the wind is blowing around me. :D

I think it is important to wear something that will cover up all the areas that could get hurt. So wear a proper motorcycle jacket, a proper motorcycle helmet and proper gloves when you ride.

I do ride in everyday jeans that are in good condition (yes, not the best idea, but it is something).

I also use steel-toe construction boots. As they are inexpensive and offer great protection and walking comfort.

But if you can afford motorcycle boots and motorcycle pants then go for it. As they are even more designed for motorcycle use :D

When it's below 70F I wear full ballistic suit. (Kevlar/nylon W armour pads) When it's really hot I wear mesh armoured jacket and good sturdy blue jeans. Always wear over the ankle boots, full leather gloves. I just don't feel right riding without my gear. I've had road rash all over my body + broken bones bad enough that I really know the value of my gear.
Live it like you mean it, this ain't no dress rehearsal!

The only thing I don't do right is wear jeans instead of m/c pants, and in warm weather only. When it's cold, the m/c pants are the thing, but I hate 'em on a warm day. I hope I don't pay for that stubborness some day.

Full gear, all the time. No exceptions. I'll spend the money to get proper gear for the different weather conditions.

Why bother with any gear at all if no gloves? What part do you think you would put down first to break a fall?

Air force jump boots, Helmet, gloves, leather jacket, and usually chaps. I don't wear the chaps to church because I can take the back way, and there's virtually no traffic. If it's cold, though, I wear them even though it's only three miles.
Ride safe...God bless!
