If you care about what you look like 5 minutes into riding then Riding is not for you.

End of.

For the record I am taller than you and currently ride a bike I can deadlift. I love it because it rockets away from the lights, dosn't threaten my licence too badly and because of the rider/bike weight balance I can throw it around like you wouldn't believe.

On a Gixxer you can go from looking cool to looking silly pretty fast.

You won't look silly on a ninja 250. I'm only 6' but I look great on a 250.

Either way I'd rather look silly on a ninja 250 for a season or two than run the risk of serious injury or death. I guess that's just me though. YMMV

Ok..
How about Ninja 650r, will that do away as a good first bike
Not much difference between 500 and 650(which only has 70hp)
But at least it fits me stylewise
Also a bike should look good, not only a ride brings people joy but also the way they look on it.

Based on what I've read, the 650r is a good compromise if you want a little more bang for the buck. It is not as crazy in the torque curve as the inline 4 engined bikes. Also have you though about the SV-650, another good bike that is not really a beginner bike, but a way better choice than most inline 4s in racing attire. Since you are so tall, there is also the V-Strom 650 - another V-twin engine. I little less twitchy power curve.

Only has 70hp? As someone who has no riding experience, it's pretty clear that you don't fully appreciate the small amount of horsepower that's needed to propel a lightweight motorcycle. They're not like cars that need 200+ hp for good performance. I can pretty much guarantee that you won't make use of that 70hp on the street anytime in the near future.

Generally speaking, newbs tend to greatly overestimate the amount of power they'll require in a first bike.

To the original poster. here's a link to a 16 minute video by "WilsonRyder69" that gives his perspective for a new rider buying a 250 or other beginner bike over the 600cc.

The video is about 16 minutes long. At about 13 minutes he starts telling some things he did on the 250 that would have gotten him hurt on a bigger bike.

Here's the link WilsonRyder69

Just going to throw some ballpark basic math out there.

My car 1981 Camaro with 400+ HP weighs 4580 lbs

That bike 70 HP weighs about im going to say 500 lbs

4500/500=9 times as much weight

so 9*70 = 630... a bit high with my math but i think you get my point. You wouldn't drive a Viper if you're just learning how to drive a car would you?

If this isnt a bike for me please tell me so and give some other ideas as to what to do

Or to look at it another way, the Murphy Renegade Ultralight Biplane:

This bird is full aerobatic and can carry two people. It come with three basic Rotex engines check out the specs, and take note of the horsepower:

So if it only takes 53 HP to haul two adults and an aircraft full of fuel into the air, climbing at 500 feet per minute and cruising at 80 MPH, then you can just imagine what 70 HP on a light bike would be capable of.

Judging from his replies in this thread, I figure this guy is all about image. I doubt much that we will change his mind, and his will buy this monster, and either ride a bit and scare himself dodo-less and stop riding before a season is over, or we will be reading about his passing in the obit section of him local paper.
Always ask why.
