The most recent one I saw went for under $3500. If I had the cash lying around I would have snapped it up in a second. I'd say $4000 to $4500 is the norm for them in a 300 mile radius from me.

Overall I really like the Hornet. It's flexible enough to do 600 mile touring days as well as carving twisties with sport bikes. I love naked bikes: maintenance is simple and there is no annoying windblast from a fairing/windshield.

One major downside is the footpeg position. It's a bit too aggressive for me so after a week on the road my knees get grumpy. I have bad knees so take that with a grain of salt.

My only other gripe is the pillion seat isn't too comfy so my GF complains after 100 miles or so. If you don't take passengers then you really don't have to worry about this.

I recently bought a V-Star 650 Classic. Great (first) bike, but after 500 miles I'm already wishing I had a little more power. I'd suggest getting the V-Star 1100 Custom if you can find a deal on it. I too like the Custom over the Classic, but I got such a deal on my Classic I couldn't pass it up. I don't know if you're looking at new bikes, but the Kawasaki Vulcan 900 Custom has similar styling to the V-Star Custom, but it has fuel injection and liquid cooling.

Probably only in the VFR's. And ST1100/1300.

Oh, I'd love to get a big bike, like a 100cc+ Cruiser. But, the law forbidds me from going over 650. If i could get ANY cruiser, it would be the Warrior..ah what a bike.

The law forbids you? What kind of fouled up laws do you have down there in TN that keeps under 650cc?

Yes the Warrior is a nice bike. I was just at a dealership today that has one in red with the silver stripe, and V&H Short Shot Exhausts to replace the stock exhaust. Beautiful bike, with lots of power (probably more than I need now :wink: ), but sadly I can't afford one of those.

The good news with the 650 you'd save a ton on insurance, and there are some inexpensive mods to the V-star that will get your performance up around what the 750-800cc bikes are getting. You could install the Gonzo Air Kit (GAK) from zivney.net, and do a no-cut-gut to the stock exhaust all for less than $100 if you do the work yourself. I will be doing that, or putting a hypercharger with the no-cut-gut exhaust on my 650 hopefully this winter. The other good news is there are tons of used V-stars out there in great condition. I got my '01 with less than 4000 miles, in almost new condition, for $2700. Had I waited until winter set in I probably could have gotten that even cheaper, but then I would have missed a couple months of riding.

If you end up getting a V-star 650 check out 650ccnd.com for tips on modifying the bike, and a link to a discussion forum with tons more info.

I dunno about the laws but knowing some people that live down there and how they "behave" that would be a good law to have for beginners cause them rednecks would find some way of making that thing do what it wasnt intended....

There are jack***es everywhere. I've lived all over this country, and have friends in almost every state in the Union. There's no higher percentage of idiots in the south, than there are in the north. Same is true when talking about east, west and midwest. "Rednecks" in TN don't need any assinine laws any more than "white trash" in Michigan do.
