Next year...

#1 Unread post by SBK15 »

Well, next year i've decided that i'm gonna get a new bike
I DON'T want a GSXR/CBR/ZXR/R6.
I cant go over 650cc
I want something affordable.
Here's what i've been looking at.
Suzuki SV650S
Suzuki Katana 600
Suzuki GSX650F
Kawasaki Ninja 650R/500R
Kawassaki KLR650
Kawasaki ZZR600
Honda Hornet 599(if i can find one in the states..)
Yamaha FZ6
Yamaha V-STAR 650 CUSTOM (It's the ONLY cruiser i like)

ANY other ideas? I'd love to hear them!

Thanks a bunch,
SBK15 :D

Well do you want a sporty bike? Most of your choices were sporty bikes, but you included one cruiser. As for sports bike, I'd go with a 500 for my first bike. And yeah, that includes my 300 lb mass it'd have to move. So yeah, otherwise, the V-star 650 is a good choice too.

You can tell i like the Multistrada; great view, wide bars, the looks grow on you, and the v-twin does too. They did a 620 cc version.

Do you get the Versys in the states? 650cc parallel twin. It will probably be my next bike, unless I go for a Tiger 1050, may be a bit too much for my skills though. The Multistrada 1000 was great, but wheelies in third gear are not my thing; it had its gearing reduced. Crazy.

Personally, if someone said pick one and gave me that list, I'd go with the 599. Though I already have the Ninja 650R. Which is a great bike. Actually, they all pretty much are great bikes, I'd be happy with most of them in the garage (aka tucked under the porch).

The bikes I was considering for bike # 2 were the SV650 and the Yamaha FZ6. I went with the SV650 on the advice of those who know a lot more about bikes than I ever will...it's a little less twitchy than the FZ6, a little less likely to get me into trouble.

The FZ6 is more upright than the SV650S; I got the naked SV (too old for a sportier riding position)...no regrets on going with the SV. It goes faster than I'll ever want to ride, it's smooth, and cuts through the canyons nicely. If I ever get another bike, it'll be because I'm itching for something new, not because the bike isn't good enough or I've outgrown it.

Other good one on your list is the Ninja, probably a better choice than the FZ6 if you're looking to keep it under control. I briefly considered it, but I prefer my bikes more naked. It's just an aesthetic thing.

The V* is an awesome cruiser...but judging from your list you lean towards the sportier side; you might be wishing for a sportier bike if you got a cruiser, but I'm willing to bet you'd have no regrets about a reasonable sports bike.
