Thanks, everyone. I was out again yesterday. Doc had asked me to call him anytime after 10am if I felt like going for a ride.
I called and 10:48 and got no answer, so I left a message. At 11:10 I left him an email and rode over there.

I seem to have lost the "joy" that I used to have. I don't feel the exhileration I used to feel when I was going for even a short ride. I used to smile inside my helmet, but that smile is not there now.

Anyway....I got to Doc's and rang the doorbell. Waiting.....waiting....waiting....I was just about to go back to my bike to find my phone when I heard some shuffling about from within.
Doc opened the door and sounded rather gruff when he stated, "This isn't a phone call". :frusty:

I then let him know that I had phoned and also left an email.
So-o-o-o, Doc made tea and we chatted while he went and got ready to ride.
We rode up across Burnaby Mountain and around the SFU area. Then went along the Barnet Highway and into the Newport area of Port Moody/Ioco. I needed a break. We stopped at the Starbucks for tea and discussed the ride we had just done.
I told him that I seem to have lost my enthusiasm for riding. He told me he noticed that I was not relaxed like I used to be. He also noticed the hesitancy I have developed.
I hope it's just a matter of getting some time on the bike to overcome the apprehension I feel and to find once again the joy that riding used to bring me.

I did manage to ride 60km (40miles) yesterday. After out tea break we decided it was time to head home. Doc went his way and I mine. It's a good thing I came home when I did. When I was nearing home, I noticed I was starting to stall the bike. That's my cue that I am fatigued. I seldom stall my bike so when it happens a few times in the space of 5 or 10 minutes, it's time to call it a day.

I'll try again tomorrow if it's nice out.

I felt the same way when I came back to riding last year. It took me awhile to retune myself with the bike. However, one day I threw the leg over and I was perfectly one with the bike. Great feeling :D

Way to be, Blues. You're sure to think more about riding the nicer it gets outside.

Are you close to the area known as The Palouse? (sp?)

Yes, Pullman is one of the four "centers" to the Palouse.

Third time out. I had to deliver some paperwork to someone today, so I decided to use the bike for the purpose. It's a beautiful sunny day here so using the bike was an opportunity to practice.
My riding seems ok. Shifting, braking and cornering are coming back. I think my coordination is improving.
However....no smiles for me today. In fact, I am still getting chest pains. Chest pains are a sign of anxiety.
On my way home I stopped into an almost empty parking lot in Central Park to practice weaving, circles, u-turns and stopping.
I need to practice some more. My circles weren't as tight as they could be.

If the weather holds, I'll try again tomorrow.

While obviously this doesn't apply to the chest pains - are you maybe worrying too much about the whole thing and how much fun you're having to enjoy it?

Hmmmmm.....Good question. I don't know. I'll keep your question in mind the next time I go out.
