I've heard horror stories about those tires, and I was refering to out of the box performance. I still think, even with both bikes on pilot powers, the 650R would win

Though I'd rather have the strom with new tires for anything more than 150 miles...

PS - anyone with a vstrom and 2 sets of pilot powers care to come out to western ma? there's a couple tracks around here...

Don't knock the Trailwings too hard. I've seen pics of guys grinding the pegs while running the stock tires. They've been fine for me, I'll probably go with Trailwings again when it's time for new rubber.

Sure you can grind in good conditions but they get real squirrelly at speeds over 45 in the rain, don't provide the best grip compared to similarly priced alternatives and only last about 8k miles. The Metzler Tourances are a much better dual sport tire in that they grip better on road, have deeper treads for better grip in mud, and last longer. Pilot Powers or conti attacks are apparently a great road tire though.
