CE Jacket

Somewhere I saw a recommendation for a 100% CE jacket. But I'm not sure what this means or what jackets would qualify. Does anyone have any ideas?

CE is the Armour Certification I believe. So you'll see "CE Approved Shoulder Armour" etc. etc.

That is basically like the Snell certification for a helmet but for body armour.

Hmmm, I wonder if they were just talking about the shoulders and elbows or if there was some jacket that had armor on the chest and back, etc.


Sometimes it is a good thing I have so long to go before getting my license. I still don't have a jacket or helmet.

Well my jacket has CE Approved Shoulder wrist AND Back armour. Basically if you are getting a jacket make sure the armour in it is CE Approved.

I just purchased a Joe Rocket Reactor 2 mesh jacket. It has CE certified armors. As long as you have great protection where you need it, you cant go wrong... as far as protection goes. Ability is a whole other ballfield.

No, that's a good thing. But what is the highest rating you can buy and do these companies advertise the ratings with the CE identification?

I just purchased a Joe Rocket Reactor 2 mesh jacket. It has CE certified armors. As long as you have great protection where you need it, you cant go wrong... as far as protection goes. Ability is a whole other ballfield.

I think I was looking at that jacket. It supports back armor, but I didn't see on Joe Rockets web site the actual back armor. As far as ability - well my ability is zero right now - we'll see what it is after the MSF course. At least I know where all the major controls are located.

How's the bike hunt going? I thought I saw you leaning toward a Rebel in one post, but maybe a Ninja in another post?

Like with bikes, both my husband & I have found the need to try on a whole lot of different makes. The same size in one fit weirdly in another, and throwing in that armor made it even weirder. Then there are liners that zip in and out. We were at the local motorcycle megastore, with tons of sizes and styles. One of the salespeople helped me out a lot with figuring out when the shoulder armor was landing in the right place. Darn thing fit tighter than I expected, but it's not a good idea to have the armor flopping around! I already have broad shoulders, so now I look like a linebacker, but I have my jacket! By Fieldsheer. Hadn't heard of them before.

I don't think MSF requires you to have a motorcycle jacket for your class, though. Ours didn't. Heck, some people didn't even have helmets--they borrowed them from MSF.

You know... I'm all over the place on the bike hunt. I called and said when the local Kawasaki dealer gets a green Ninja 250R in stock to call me and I'll put a deposit on it.

But there isn't anything holding me to that. I've been looking at all the costs and stuff, and insurance, the motorcycle are cheaper if I go with the Rebel - or some older used bike.

My wife and I aren't in to used vehicles - been screwed too many times, but then again we haven't purchased a motorcycle before. The concept of laying the bike down kinda sucks if I buy a nice new pretty Ninja 250R.

I'll do a nice posting about my bike when I get it... And at this rate it'll be anything but a 600cc or larger sport bike! I don't have any cultural leanings cruiser vs sport bike.

I've even considered some used Buell Blasts, but they might be a little more bike than I can handle.
