Speedometer compatibility

#1 Unread post by TheSilencer »

Hi all
I have just bought a 1981 Suzuki GS450.

Is it possible to fit any speedo and tachometer to it or does it have to be the Suzuki part?
Would it be possible to fit a digital CDI unit to the bike? Bearing in mind of course the the current setup is mechanical not electronic.

Any comment and suggestions are welcome - Thanks! :D

You can find aftermarket speedos for it. I believe it's a cable driven so you just need to find one that runs on the same ratio. Tachs are available too. It's easy enough to rig an electrical tack with the signal coming from your coils so all you need to do is mount it and play with electronics.

I'm not sure if there's one for your bike, but there are many electronic ignition upgrade kits to help us leave points well in our past. Check out sites like Z1enterprises, bikebandit and the like to see if they make one for your scoot.
