Carb adjusting ??

#1 Unread post by Pegleg »

I have a 97 Kawasaki 800 Vulcan. The grandkid found the knob that adjusts the carb. :x How would I go about getting this thing back into adjustment? Not sure weather to turn clockwize or counter clockwize to start.

What is the result, more rpms at idle or less? If you turn it clockwise does it get better or worse?
People say I'm stupid and apathetic. I don't know what that means, and I don't care.

could be like me and have a broken spring but im too lazy to replace it lol. Your manual should tell you which way to go.

The motor is running very rough. I turned the knob all the way clockwize then turned it back a quarter turn. I got it started but the front cylinder was loadin up. It seemed to get better the more I turned it counter clockwize. It still idles rough but smooths out at higher RPM's.

Personally, I would ask the Grandkid :)

I have a 97 Vulcan 500 LTD and the manual says:
Start the engine & warm it up thoroughly.
Turn the adjusting screw until idle speed (1,300 +/- 50 rpm) is correct.
Open & close the throttle a few times to make sure the idle speed is within the specified range. Readjust if necessary.

Doesn't say which direction to turn.:?
Also, how would you know the correct rpm for your bike, you got a tachometer?

Guess you'd just have to feel it out from how you know your bike feels and sounds.

Still trying to decide what I love most... Marriage or my Bikes!

sounds to me like you need to make sure your low speed jet isnt clogged.

99.99% of the time clockwise increases the idle, counterclockwise decreases
you really just got to feel it and hear it.
