completely broken, considering selling

Hey its me again, got a 06 honda shadow spirit 750 that wont start. The engine shut down while i was riding. I first thought it over heated so i put new coolant in it, noticed the oil needed to be changed. It started back up and ran fine for a day then broke down again, had to call a tow truck to get home. I changed the oil today with the recommended oil and now its completely dead. New oil, new battery, new spark plugs, new coolant and a full tank of gas and its worse than when i got it 2 months ago. Don't know what to do anymore. Help me out friends. Thanks.

Do the lights come on with the key?

If not, Then you either have a blown fuse or bad battery connection.

A loose connection will cause problems like you describe.

New battery or not, I would remove the cables, reinstall to make sure.

Is the battery charged? Maybe you have a bad charging system or fuse.

A 2006 shouldn't have needed a new battery unless you (or someone lese) left the lights on and totally drained it. My last battery lasted 7 years.

Check the electrolyte level in the battery if it isn't a sealed one. Add distilled water if it is low.

yeah the lights and turn signals work, its a brand new battery. The previous owner seriously abused this bike. The starter works but the engine wont start, when it does start (rarely) it slowly shuts off and then it wont start again for a couple of hours.

Well, then it's not completely dead.

"The starter works", so I assume the engine turns over and occasionally starts.

Is the petcock open? is it working? drain the carbs. There is usually a screw on the carburetor (I am assuming carburetor and not fuel injection) bowl, on the bottom, that drains the carbs. If you got a bad load of gas, they could have water in them.

That it turns over and starts means you are close to running.

Is the air cleaner clean? could be clogged.

Are you using the choke?

Pull a plug and see if it is black, brown, or wet.

pull plug or plugs,reconnect to plug wire put plug end aginst eng hit starter see if your getting spark. make sure u have insullated boots on the plug wire or just hold the wire further down line. may be a coil or coils

normally costs about $100 to have a shop give a thorough diagnosis. I'd drop it by there and have them take a look at it. Might be something simple.
