Yeah, they're pretty sweet. Much easier to use than a shield (IMO; however, in a pinch a shield is still better than mouth-to-mouth). And, when someone shows up with a bag, you can hook it up and you're good to go.

Cheers,

After three grueling months of abuse and torture, I've completed my Level II Fire Fighter training. Had a blast once again amazing my fellow classmates with my age. The gender thing is a no-issue these days (in most places anyway), but the fact that this woman is 40 years old is quite a shocker to most.

Next up, in a year or so, might be my Paramedic level EMT training. We'll see. I need a lot more experience as a Basic before I'm willing to take on that load.

Cheers,
Loonette

Just last week at our department holiday party I was awarded "Firefighter of the Year". It's not awarded to those who have the most calls, but rather to someone who has shown significant growth and advancement in the field. I was very surprised.

Also, "Scan" just completed his basic EMT training and is now certified. He was awarded "Recruit of the Year". Even though he wasn't certified throughout the year, you could find him working at whatever capacity he was allowed.

They call us the Collins Dynasty now.

Cheers,

Nice!

I taught an EVOC class this past week but nobody wants to give me awards. Maybe because we tore up the patrol car. The firetruck and ambulance were ok though

You guys rock hard. Remember that and you will still get puked on when Scan runs rescue.

Bump!!

I noticed that it's been two years since this thread has been touched. Any new stories from anyone?

In November I begin my EMT-Intermediate training. Once completed, I'll be able to start IVs, push most meds, do breathing treatments... all kinds of stuff. I'm very excited. Along with volunteering my hours, I was also hired as a part-time employee at our department almost two years ago (in October). It's been great working here so much. The pay sucks (of course!!), but it doesn't matter because I have so much fun going on calls. I drive everything now except for the tanker, and I still need to be checked off on running the engine pumps, but that's no biggie - just a matter of getting my trainer in here when I'm available.

Anyway... maybe this thread can be revitalized. Chime in!

Cheers,
Loonette

I'm still in the Forensic Science program at John Jay College part of CUNY and have first aid training. Considering that we learn almost every aspect of math and science many students in the program don't stay in the law enforcement field. I am seriously thinking about going to the San Jose PD either this year or next as they pay quite a bit more than NYPD and the area itself is quite enjoyable. Motorcycling weather all year round as well. The only problem is packing up all my belongings and moving to a strange new place, not to mention the decision to ride there or haul the bike on a truck.
One thing you can count on: You push a man too far, and sooner or later he'll start pushing back.
