Thats a hard poll to answer, I believe we have to do all three. However, I don't believe we will ever completely rid ourselves of terrorism I believe we have to keep fighting it no matter what.

I think we need to take an approach closer to the one the Israelis have taken . We need to ferret out the money trail and the training and arms trail and wipe that out completely . Anyone in this country aiding and abetting Al Queda or the Taliban should be disciplined according to the Koran . Something they profess to understand .
Now mind you most of my friends think of me as a liberal ................

try sitting down with the leaders of the nations that sponsor these acts against our people.after a nice talk about human rights over tea and crumpets suggest that a peaceful resolution be found.if this fails to win their hearts and minds and the terrorism continues drop some hydrogen bombs on them.and as far as the innocent civilians that would inevitably be lost, the ones doing this were innocent civilians at one time.

As much as I dislike the fact, military action is the only method which really works...

I would love to say promote democracy, as it would be the most peaceful, unobtrusive resolve, but I doubt it would work, as democracy is what has caused both the terrorists, and the nation states backing them, to feel threatened in the first place.

As far as tighten security goes, of you can put further controls on availability of plastic explosives, but the only really secure way would be for the police to search your bags / car every mile, for legal substances which can be misused (ie fertilizer).

Unfortunately, this leaves us with military action, which assists the terrorists recruitment, and kills thousands. But is also capable of making terrorists fear any consequenses to their homeland, from any action they may take.

:? welcome to the sadistic modern world everyone :|

Military action may or may not be the answer.... I ain't smart enough to know the answer(although I lean heavily towards military action, being a redneck hillbilly). But if your gonna use that route, REALLY use it. Small, hit-or-miss actions don't work. They just pissoff the folks your fighting with, leading to terrorism and resentment.... on both parts. Go Hard, or Go Home. Go in and kick Omar-"O Ring" untill Omar gives up(not a likely scenaro) or use a few nukes to pave some desert(also not likely and very unpleasant). It's too late to close every border and keep every country seperated and contained, humanity hasn't learned to get along yet, I fear there will be a great deal more blood spilled before this goes away......

All of the above, applied intelligently.

Military action? Sure, when the situation calls for it. If a nation is harboring and aiding terrorists, like Iran or Syria, then by all means, tell them they have X amount of time to kick them out or turn them over to our justice, or we'll invade and do it for them.

Promote Democracy? Definitely. Keep encouraging through economic means, as we have in China, the growth and promotion of the ideals of freedom and justice. Set examples and become, OURSELVES, the shining beacon of the success of a democratic nation. Obviously, we have work to do as a people to achieve that goal.

Tighten Security? Absolutely, when those security measures do not infringe on the basic rights secured by the Constitution of the United States. We, as a people, have to police our government through the power of the vote. Sometimes the greatest threat to a people's freedoms are its own governing bodies. Thomas Jefferson once said, "He that would trade his freedoms for the illusion of security neither deserves nor will recieve either." Our founding fathers were some smart cats... read the Constitution and know your rights, and know where the limits -should- be.

this is tuff for me...mostly for 2 reasons.

1. im kinda but not really routeing for the terroists. i know thats a terrible thing to say but i am. yes i think we should fight them. yes i think they kill innocent people. and if they killed my kid id be pissed too.

but.

we need to look at why they hate us and change that. i mean they dont call us the great satan for nothing.

i routed for the south, the sandinistas, the chechians(sp?), the zapitistas, in history class too. i like rebals. blame rage against the machine.

i fear the machine that the us is becoming.
thats a sweet bike.
