Is there any reason why pillions should mount from the left?
This is an obvious follow-up question to the sidestand one.
So, is there any notable reason then?
I figure since pillions can really choose to mount from either side, I figure doing it from the right would be safer, since it keeps them out of traffic's way (and in the case of my bikes' mufflers, IMHO a pillion is less likely to make contact if they mount from the right).

Since I rarely have my pillion get on board along the side of a roadway. Usually in the driveway or a parkiing space or area. I just have them mount from the left.
If you're along a roadway, it does seem a bit safer to have them get on from the "off traffic" side. . . could be a problem if that puts them "downhill" from the bike (as it would along some roads/highways).

Makes me glad that the giant cannons for exhausts that I have are cool to the touch almost all the time.Amdonim wrote:The two bikes I've owned had the exhaust stacked on the right side. In fact, I once told one of my pillions to make sure to get off on the left side and she didn't listen. Melted a pair of my riding pants to the exhaust.
