Custom made motorcycle jackets?

  • Quote

#1 Post by InAsia » Sat Aug 01, 2009 11:26 pm

So I naturally figure I need a MC jacket to go with my bike...

I'm taking a trip down to China for a month and then to thailand for a week a little later.

I figure that rather than shopping among the limited selection in korea(nobody wears riding jackets here), I might aswell get it custom built from a tailor.

Anybody ever had this done? I'd like some advice.

Some good websites for jackets to look at are recommended....need something for them to copy.

Quality, heavy leather, not the thin fashion styled stuff...

you can get them custom made in korea just the same as anywhere else, and depending on where you're at in korea there won't be much, if any, language barrier even if you don't speak any korean.

just make sure--as mentioned above--they use thicker leather than they normally use for the jackets otherwise it won't offer any substantial protection and see about getting some inside pockets made for armor and most places will offer a zip-out liner option.

Could you buy some CE certified armor (don't forget quality back armor; even the regular jacket makers usually use crummy foam padding) and bring it with you? That way, the pockets could be perfectly shaped for your armor and will position the pads more securely.

HEAVY DUTY thread for construction!! It doesn't matter how sturdy the pieces are, if the thread holding it together gives up on impact.

I was thinking of that, but I figure china would be dirt cheap in comparison....prices on offer the rack leather jackets here are still fairly high...

I like the Lancaster jacket but it's a EU thing and no one in the states sells em...

They supposedly have a nice fit compared to big name riding jackets and also have CE padding.

I ended up buying a Joe rocket jacket(with armor) for under $200 from a shop in the silk market in beijing...it was the only one I found in the entire country and I traveled from beijing to tibet!

China has strict rules on motorcycles and generally nobody wears safety gear....maybe a helmet if their paranoid...so it's not like a tailor would have understood the concept of a "protection" motorcycle jacket.

I think I'll buy an EXR Mesh jacket that's on sale for 135 here in Korea too.

I also got a black, chinese army airfore helmet for motorcycling...sure to "pee" off the korean cops!
