I run Spybot and Adaware plus Norton AV and firewall. I access the site from my work computer through IE 6 and through my home computer with the latest version of Netscape. Never have a crash or performance problem here.

its TMW fault for sure, its the popunder causing it im fairly sure. thats the kinda thing that happens when admins use only one browser to debug the site. in this day and age you cant expect people to conform to your standards to view the site, you have to make sure it works on as many browsers as you can.
and so you know you dont reinstall safari ahha... and theres no malware on the mac at all.

I use Internet Explorer 6 and it works like a charm and I'm on all the time, everyday.
I would try using a main internet browser like IE6 and your problems may go away... Or maybe reinstalling your browser may help too.
Also I would run Adaware to get rid of any really bad malware that might be running on your computer. Malware is REALLY BAD, it slows your computer down, causes it to crash and can report everything you do on the net back to its servers.
BTW: Total Motorcycle only runs normal ads, no spyware or malware here. Although we do use normal everyday cookies (eg. when you log in it will give you the option of a "Always log me in" cookie).

Of your joking - that's a good one. If your not... I can't figure out why you think a website would be required to test every browser on their site. Really that is a user problem. Just like software. It is supported on some hardware and not others. The owness is on you to deal with what does or doesn't work.iwannadie wrote:its TMW fault for sure, its the popunder causing it im fairly sure. thats the kinda thing that happens when admins use only one browser to debug the site. in this day and age you cant expect people to conform to your standards to view the site, you have to make sure it works on as many browsers as you can.

Besides, as I said, I'm using the two real browsers and it works fine. All the other browser are free bees, so they will have problems from time to time with IE or Netscape based sites.

well ive made a living with websites i know a fair bit about the whole industry. imagine if every one thought as you did it would be a sad place online, i workd on big hotel sites as sheraton and such, we got tons of complaints from people using some god aweful out dated browser and sure enough the client wanted it to work for those people as well. its all about being accessible to as many people as you can.
imagine a motorcycle that required you to ride with a specific boot or something stupid like that would make no sense and you wouldnt go near that bike. or honda saying 'the new goldwing is not tested on highways use at your own risk'. the admin of this site isnt required to do anything, but a good admin will make the site work, and to work at its best it should be tested very well across alot of platforms.
its the same thing here if you ask people to get your exact specs to use your site most will not, and even more might not be Able to meet your requirements. i see "use ie6" over and over but linux users/mac users/ out of date windows users/other countrys Cant use that certain browser. again its all on the admin to decide if he wants a limited user base or be open to Anyone and everyone.
its the world wide web, not the conform in a coffin

what exactly is a real browser? and why would you pay for it? IE and any other is free so which are you calling "free bees". maybe you dont even realize but most browsers are based off the same engine and have minor add ons to make a difference, if it doesnt work for one its not gonna work for many so thinking 'oh those safari users cant use the site so what' well your also eliminating a whole other line of browsers that share the way safari handles code.

I think they should totally change the structure of the superhighway system, because it's not at all conducive to my 50cc scooter. I mean, don't they run scooter tests on these highways!!!???
Seriously, Isaac mentioned his problem was occuring 'post-hack' meaning before that, his setup worked just fine with the site. I know that giant corporations want to maximize PROFIT - so of course thay want the widest audience available. TMW is not a major corporation. As a matter of fact, with the plethora of pop-up blockers out there, I'd be amazed if those adverts are allowing TMW admin to even break even every month. This is the first complaint of this nature - there's a chance there may be something wrong w/ Isaac's setup for one.

ive had the same problem on 3 differnt machines using safari, it doesnt seem to be our 'setups'. its something in the code thats causing the problem.
i was having the problem pre-hack so who knows... just my thoughts on the subject. makes no sense to limit your user base especially when even you suggest hes not getting enough hits with the ads to make anything, the more users the more ad revenue... the more users the bigger the forum and community grows.
i honestly dont get the idea of making money off ads anyways knowing everyone has ad blocking software now days, and if your not making money then get rid of them and go to a donations system but thats a whole new topic ha

Here's my thoughts. This is free to use and it cost a lot of TIME to maintain. I am NOT going to give the provider of this wonderful site more work to do since he already has his hands full keeping news up to date, checking in here, talking to advertisers, and responding to those on the board that have issues with the site or its users. I think it is not reasonable to expect he would have to test all browsers and unless he is compelled by a large audiance having a problem with a certain browser, why would he be compelled?
Really it is none of my biz - it isn't my site, and you didn't tell ME to test all the browsers, so be it. I suggest you contact Mike LePard (totalmotorcycle) and complain via PM or e-mail. Take it off-line with the source, and maybe you'll be helping him to build a better website that more users can reach. Last I heard though this is the number one or two cycle site in the world, even with this weakness of not allowing all browsers, at all patch levels, on all operating sytems to be assured of access.

Ads bring in 98% of all TMW revenue to keep the site running. Without those ads, there would be no Total Motorcycle, in fact, there would be no FREE websites on the internet left, only pay sites. To pay to visit a website would suck more than 0 or 2 popups a day right? Now we would give you 10-50 popups per day, but we thought 0-2 a day was quite fair to you.
Unlike other sites, Total Motorcycle is FREE, no subscritions, memberships, or donations required. This is possible by ads and community sponsors, so YOU do not have to pay anything to enjoy this site if you do not want to.
I'm not sure if this will put your mind at rest but Total Motorcycle is visited and tested each minute with more operating systems and browers than you could imagine. Here is just a partial list of what THIS months tens of thousands of visitors are using to view and enjoy Total Motorcycle (see below).
If you are using something not listed in the list below I would be shocked.
