Ducati is worse?

I dunno. I have not even thought of the fuel filter yet on the Hyper. I only have about 4300 miles on it. When is it supposed to be changed?

I'm not sure without looking and I'm too lazy to look at the moment. However the dealer and others suggested that this might be the problem "as the GT1000 doesn't normally have these types of problems". I went through the effort and there was absolutely nothing in it.

I didn't know about the suspension woes. I know the fueling sucked as the fat duc originated for that bike. Speaking of the fat duc, I just ordered the 02 manipulator from them. Can't wait to try it. It does surge a little at low rpms so hopefully this will smooth it out. It's stock other than the Leo Vince cat eliminator.

I'm tending to keep my bikes closer to stock these days.....if you overlook the carbon cans on the 'Duke. Less troubles overall.

I would leave stuff like that alone normally but obviously the Italians obviously don't know how to meter fuel. The fuel injection is flawless on the CBR. The Bay Em Vay has that infamous slight surging around the 3000rpm but it's hardly noticeable. The surging is more noticeable on the Ducati and it is right off idle making it much more annoying.

Your new Monster has the Siemens(German I assume?) fuel injection correct? I hear the fuel metering is much smoother.

Funny you just posted this as I just did my fuel filter today. It's definitely a pain in the but it's not really that difficult. It just requires removing a ton of dodo to get to the stupid thing. If you are mechanically inclined enough to adjust your valves, you are more than qualified to do this job. I did have a SNAFU today however. One of the infamous plastic POS fuel line quick disconnects cracked when I was removing it. So I rode the CBR to the BMW dealer about an hour away. What a rip off they are(the quick disconnects, not the dealer). I bought two(one for a spare) and they were about $60 each. Even the parts guy commented on what a rip off they are. I did notice however that the part that broke on mine is now made of metal instead of plastic. Got home put everything back together and took it for a ride. Thank goodness I won't have to do this for another 24K miles.

I missed this response when you posted it, but I don't know. It SHOULD have one, but hten it should be in the manual.

I'm not sure about the manufacturer of the injection, but it is a little rougher than the S2R and much more cold blooded. This seems to be a Ducati trend with their newer bikes that I have tried.....

I got the fatduc 02 manipulator and put it on last Saturday. I started it on the leanest setting and I noticed that the surging was noticeably reduced and the engine felt much smoother accelerating. I have been tweaking it richer every time I ride and I am at around the 13.5 ratio mark right now and it keeps improving. The surging is significantly reduced and the engine keeps getting smoother. I also got better mpg as well if you can believe it. This has got to be the best $87 one can spend on an engine modification.

I never understood the hate for the new Monsters. I was unsure about the new style when the pics first come out, but in the flesh the bike looks great. It works great too.

It has finally grown on me and I actually like the looks of it now. Especially the pearl white.

Usually that doesn't happen with me. If I hate/love a design, it stays fairly constant. I thought the Terblanche Fuelie Supersports were mfugly when they came out in 1999 and I still do. I loved the radical and controversial Terblanche 999 Superbike from day one.
