I just traded my first bike--a 2008 BMW F800ST that I put 34K miles on--for a 2010 BMW R1200R. I am absolutely in love! This is my favorite possession ever. I knew I'd get more power and comfort, but have been blown away by the handling. It is much better in the twisties than my old one (which was pretty darned good). Took me six days to put the first 1,000 miles on it. The only flaw is a horrible seat. Tried sheepskin and beads but that didn't fix it. Got an Airhawk today and will try that over the weekend.
Nice, how's the windscreen working out for ya? If you let the F800 go for a good price I would've taken it off your hands for you.
Was the seat really that bad? It looks pretty comfy in the pics.
Not to mention you're just as bad as me when it comes to adding miles to a bike. The question is where do we go to put on that many miles?
One thing you can count on: You push a man too far, and sooner or later he'll start pushing back.
I've been OK with the little windscreen since it's been blazingly hot in the week I've owned it, but I ordered a Ztechnik at the same time I bought the bike that should be in next week.
The seat is really awful. I could easily do 7-9 hour days on the F800ST. Last month, I rode from Carlisle PA to Burlington VT. Gave a talk the next morning and immediately rode back. On this thing, after two hours I have to get off every 20 minutes.
So you put 34K miles on a 2 year old bike, man you are a serious rider. Would take me several years to log that kind of miles. My hat's off to you sir Hopefully you will be able to find a seat that is comfortable for you.
